Blumarine was founded in Carpi, Italy, in 1977 by Anna Molinari with husband Gianpaolo Tarabini. At the time the company produced knitwear sometimes trimmed with diamond. The line is known for its leopard-rose print rarely without a splattering of sequins. Blumarine collections are young, fun, and throwaway. Kitsch and naughty, sexy and prudish, the clothes always represent an appealing ambiguity. In 1990 Blumarine launched two new lines, currently designed by Molinari's daughter, Rossella Tarabini, Anna Molinari and Blugirl for teenage girls. The company boasts over 700 retail boutiques. The major international expansion of Blumarine boutiques is planned, particularly in the Middle East and Asia.
